Benefits
Paid Leave
- Vacation: 4 weeks of vacation each year.
- Sick Leave: 3 weeks each year.
- Parental Leave: Up to 6 additional paid weeks for parental leave and an additional 8 to 12 weeks unpaid leave is available but will necessitate residency extension per ABIM Policies.
- Examination: 2 examination days are given to complete Step 3 in the PGY 1 year.
- Continued Medical Education: Residents have 3 total working days available to attend approved CME event. *Subject to approval.
- Employment/Fellowship Interviews: There is a maximum of 10 weekdays in the PGY2 or 3 years allotted for interviewing/site visits to potential employers.
Insurance
Resident benefit packages are handled by the Graduate Medical Education office. UAB offers health, dental, vision and various other benefits to residents.
