The Office of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME)
We are charged with supporting the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the undergraduate medical curriculum for the MD degree. We address this charge by working with course/clinical director leadership, collaborating with other Heersink School of Medicine units, and responding to oversight and review of the curriculum by the Medical Education Committee (MEC). The MEC is responsible for reviewing curriculum evaluation data, providing feedback, and approving changes to the curriculum that are then relayed to the Office of UME for implementation in the MD educational program in a cycle of continuous quality improvement in the undergraduate medical education program.

Office of Admissions and Enrollment Management
This office provides a comprehensive, wholistic admissions process for prospective medical students. From initial application to diploma, their team supports students through admissions, financial aid, and records services.
Areas of Distinction
This program offers medical students the opportunity to personalize their education and to gain expertise in specific areas of interest. Each area represents a topic that furthers the vision and mission of the school and provides specialized training to interested students.
Equal Access Birmingham
This clinic provides necessary care to the uninsured and underserved populations in the Birmingham community. EAB is run by Heersink students, providing service-learning experience and hands-on medical education.

Office of Medical Education Accreditation and Continuous Quality Improvement
This office fosters an environment where the medical school is engaging in an intentional process that supports educational program improvement, contributes to positive outcomes during accreditation review, and meets the Liaison for Medical Education (LCME) accreditation requirements.
Medical Scientist Training Program
This program provides students a fully integrated M.D.-Ph.D. program. For their first and second years in medical school, students concurrently take both a selection of medical school and graduate school courses.

This office serves students throughout their four years of medical school. MSS is designed to support students through a focus on student wellness, personal growth, and professional development.
Office of Service Learning
This office aims to help medical students understand the impact of social factors on health. They collaborate with community partners to provide medical students opportunities for hands-on learning and skill-building through service in the Birmingham area.
