The residency is divided into four basic educational periods

• The internship year provides an excellent background in general medical knowledge and skills prior to starting anesthesiology training.
• After completion of internship residents begin their Clinical Anesthesiology (CA) training. This CA1 year starts with Basic Orientation and progresses to a generalized clinical year. Initial subspecialty experience begins late in the CA1 year.
• During the CA2 year residents complete rotations in all subspecialty areas. At completion of the CA2 year, the majority of cases required by the American Board of Anesthesiology have been completed.
• As CA3’s, residents have flexibility to develop a clinical curriculum that meets their goals. Additional subspecialty experiences, elective rotations, experience supervising multiple operating rooms, and operating room management training occur during this final year of training.

Curriculum Components 

• Formal education and meaningful experience in quality improvement and patient safety.
• Didactic curriculum including residency wide sessions and level specific sessions, utilizing multiple modalities including conventional lectures, utilization of web based resources, and small group classroom sessions.
• Simulation training including high-fidelity simulation focused on perioperative management, interprofessional simulation experiences, and OSCE preparation simulations modeled after the ABA Applied Exam.
• Experience and training in ultrasound and echocardiography including faculty lead simulation, independent learning using high fidelity simulation trainers, and clinical experience with bedside teaching.
