We want residents and fellows to be well-prepared to serve as leaders in anesthesiology and in the broader medical community. We encourage you to consider your long-term career goals and explore the wide range of graduate degree and certificate programs available to you beyond the core curriculum.
The UAB EAP will pay 100% tuition for multiple UAB graduate degree and certificate programs. Our department provides 50% coverage of eligible program fees associated with your coursework. Residents and fellows that meet departmental and institutional admission requirements may request approval for protected non-clinical time to attend classes – without extending training. A small sampling of graduate degree and certificate programs available through UAB EAP include:
Master of Science in Health Administration (MSHA): Offered through the UAB School of Health Professions, the Executive MSHA Program prepares physicians for leadership in healthcare operations, systems, and policy.
Master of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety (MSHQS): This degree program, also through the UAB School of Health Professions, develops expertise in quality measurement, patient safety, and health systems leadership.
Artificial Intelligence and Medicine (Graduate Certificate): This certificate provides learners important foundations in understanding and applying AI, as well as the safety, security and ethics of using AI to improve the health and lives of patients.
Healthcare Quality and Safety (Graduate Certificate): A course designed to offer well-rounded understanding of leadership, data system design, process management, hazard analysis, management tools, and modeling techniques for the improvement of clinical processes and decision-making.
Funding for Non-EAP Programs: Perioperative Echocardiography Certification (National Board of Echocardiography)
Anesthesiology provides 50% coverage of eligible expenses for completion of this course that culminates in certification in perioperative echocardiography.
