Excellence through Continued Enrichment & Learning
What is EXCEL?
EXCEL (Excellence through Continued Enrichment & Learning) is the UAB School of Dentistry’s signature professional development initiative for faculty and staff. It’s designed to enhance skills, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and support a culture of continuous learning and engagement. Through a mix of department-level sessions and full-day school wide conferences, EXCEL offers expert-led training, CE-eligible courses, and overall programming that strengthens our academic and clinical community.
How It Works
Several times a year, the School of Dentistry pauses regular operations to prioritize EXCEL programming. These events take two primary forms:
- Departmental Half-Days: Focused sessions held by and within departments and tailored to the needs of the individual departments
- Full-Day Conferences: Centralized, school-wide events held on- or off-site
Each full-day conference brings together nearly 200 faculty and staff for a day of learning, connection, and growth. Sessions often include expert speakers, simultaneous learning tracks, and topics ranging from medical emergencies and infection control to leadership, communication, and more. Some sessions qualify for Continuing Education (CE) credit.
