Virtual Interview Process

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the UAB Pediatric and Combined Residency Programs, in accordance with recommendations from the AAMC, NRMP, and APPD, will be conducting all interviews virtually via Zoom.

Interview Dates
Interviews will be scheduled on weekdays during the months of November, December, and January. The interview day will start at 8:00 a.m. CST and end around 12:30 p.m CST. 

Social Hour
The evening prior to each interview day, there will be an optional social hour with current residents via Zoom from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST.

Interview Day
Throughout the virtual interview day, interview with program directors/chief residents and faculty, tour our facilities, and meet some of our fantastic residents. While we wish we could host applicants in our city and meet you in person, we very much look forward to getting to know you virtually and showing you our facilities, our city, and most importantly our people!

Application Process

The UAB Pediatric Residency Training Program only accepts applications via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). For more information about ERAS, please contact your medical school dean's office. International medical graduates must register for ERAS by contacting the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).Applicants for the PGY-1 level are selected through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). The NRMP number for UAB's Pediatric Residency Program is 1007320C0. The NRMP number for UAB's Combined Med-Peds Residency Program is 1007700C0.

Elective Rotations
For information on a visiting fourth-year elective in pediatrics, email the UAB Medical Student Services office visiting@uab.edu.

Application Requirements

We recruit 24 Pediatrics, 4 Med-Peds, 2 Child Neurology and 1 Combined Genetics-Pediatrics per year.

Our Program Directors do not review information (CVs, letters, etc.) prior to applying for residency.

After receiving and reviewing applications, the Program Directors will send out invitations if you are invited to interview.

We do not have minimum board score requirements, though we do have a very competitive program and higher scores can enhance your application as a whole.

We do not accept applications from applicants who have been out of medical school for more than 5 years. 

We accept applicants with either an M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) or D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) degree.

We accept International Medical Graduates (IMG’s) into our program. UAB sponsors J-1 Visas only (on an individual basis). You must have a valid ECFMG certificate.

Three letters of recommendation are required in addition to a Dean’s letter. We also require a personal statement, medical school transcript and photo. We do not require TOEFL scores.
