Children’s of Alabama is a not-for-profit children’s hospital located in Birmingham’s Medical District. It is the only free-standing children's hospital in the state of Alabama. Children's of Alabama offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary care through its network of community pediatricians and subspecialists, many of whom are consistently highly ranked in the U.S. News and World Report. In recent years, Children's of Alabama provided care for children from every county in Alabama, 46 states, and 6 countries.

The Emergency Department (ED) at Children's of Alabama is the state's only Level 1 pediatric trauma center. The ED has 48 rooms, including a specialized, four bed unit for patients with psychiatric illness and four major resuscitation rooms. The ED works closely with many other services including the Alabama Poison Information Center, which is located within Children's of Alabama.

In 2022, there were over 67,000 visits to the Emergency Department.

As the only free-standing pediatric hospital in the state, Children's of Alabama provides a diverse and extensive spectrum of medical expertise and services. Inpatient services are housed in the Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children and the McWane Building. 

Between these two patient-care buildings, Children's of Alabama has 380 licensed beds and bassinets, 24 PICU beds, 20 CVICU beds and 26 step-down ICU beds.

The UAB Pediatrics Primary Care Clinic (PCC) is the general pediatric continuity clinic staffed fully by pediatric residents and supervised by pediatric faculty. This clinic is in Children’s Park Place which is attached to Children’s of Alabama Hospital by a sky bridge. Residents care for all ages, newborns to young adults, during well-child check-ups, follow-up appointments, and walk-in sick visits.

The Women's and Infant Center (WIC) of UAB Hospital is home to the Regional Neonatal ICU (RNICU), the Continuing Care Nursery, and the Mother-Baby Unit. It is located one block from Children's of Alabama and is connected through a sky bridge. 

The RNICU is the only Level IV NICU in Alabama and is a referral center for patients from across the Southeast. It can accommodate up to 63 infants in its 56 private rooms, including special rooms for siblings of multiple births.

The WIC also houses the UAB's Continuing Care Nursery, a step-down unit with an additional 60 private rooms.

The Mother-Baby Unit has 41 rooms where healthy infants room in with their mothers.
