Parsons — who has served as UAB’s chief facilities officer since 2019 and led Facilities Planning, Design and Construction, Operations and Maintenance, and Utilities and Energy Management during a period of historic campus growth — will retire effective Jan. 31, 2027.

Renovations will begin on Bartow Arena starting May 18, which will impact several sidewalks and parking lanes through the fall. The project is scheduled for completion by Oct.

Updated May 7, 2026: The temporary sidewalk closure scheduled has ended. The area is now open.
