UAB Facilities is managing two road closures due to repaving. Details can be found below and on the UAB Construction Zones Map. 

As part of ongoing renovations of Sterne Library, the sidewalk along 13th Street South will be temporarily closed today through Thursday. 

Renovations will begin on Bartow Arena starting May 18, which will impact several sidewalks and parking lanes through the fall.

Portions of parking along 10th Street South between 2nd and 5th avenues south will be unavailable from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Dec. 21-24, as crews restripe the roadway. The project will convert the east side of the street from parallel parking to 60-degree head-in parking, increasing available spaces from fewer than 60 to more than 90.

The southbound lanes of 14th Street South, from University Boulevard to 10th Avenue South, will close Tuesday, Dec. 17.

The closure will begin at 8:30 a.m. and last approximately four hours. The road is expected to reopen by 12:30 p.m.

Construction operations will impact 16th Street South beginning Thursday, Dec. 11, specifically affecting the segment from 7th Avenue South to the entrance to the Children's of Alabama parking deck.

While the southern portion of the street remains closed, this new paving work is scheduled to continue through the weekend with active lane restrictions occurring Saturday, Dec. 13. Access to the parking deck will remain open and flagmen will be present to direct traffic flow in and out of the facility.

Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 9, the second-floor entrance to the Learning Resource Center will be closed through July 2026. The internal staircase on the west side of the building will also be closed for the duration of the project.

Effective Friday, Oct. 17, a portion of 7th Avenue South between 19th and 20th streets south will be closed so crews can install exterior signage on the new Altec/Styslinger Genomic Medicine and Data Sciences Building, which was completed in the spring. Detour routes will be clearly marked for drivers to navigate around the site.

Crews will close a section of the northbound lane of 19th Street South between University Boulevard and 7th Avenue South 7 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Due to ongoing construction at the new Biomedical Research and Psychology Building, the outside westbound lane of University Boulevard between 16th and 14th streets south will be closed Nov. 16-30. Drivers are encouraged to use caution in the area and follow posted detours.

As part of the ongoing construction of the Biomedical Research and Psychology Building, the westbound lanes of University Boulevard between 14th and 16th streets south will be closed to traffic on Sunday, Aug. 17. Detour routes will be clearly marked for drivers to navigate around the site.

The sidewalk on the north side of University Boulevard, between 19th Street South and 20th Street South, will be closed from Tuesday, May 13, through Tuesday, May 20.

A section of 19th Street South, located between the McCallum building and the Genomics building, is scheduled to close from 6 a.m. Monday, May 5, through 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7.

Effective Friday, May 9, the southern portion of 16th Street South between 7th Avenue and University Boulevard will be closed through the end of the year. Facilities is closing this portion of the road for the next phase in the ongoing construction of the new Biomedical Research and Psychology Building. Access to the Children's Hospital 7th Avenue Deck will remain open from the 7th Avenue side.
