On October 28, 2025, Mamie Coats, Biomedical and Health Sciences co-director, received the UAB Faculty Senate award for Outstanding New Senator.

Second-year Physician Associate Studies student, Eleanor Williams, was selected as one of 18 physician associate students in the U.S to represent their program on Capitol Hill.

And the UAB School of Health Professions has four programs ranked among the Top 25 graduate programs in the United States.

In the fall of 2023, the UAB School of Health Professions launched an undergraduate program in Disability Studies and Rehabilitation Science. This year, the program unveiled a minor option to the program.

Inspired by the compassionate care she has received from Physician Assistant (PA) Amalee Smith, PA-C, Donna J. Slovensky gave $30,000 to the UAB School of Health Professions to establish an Endowed Fund in honor of Smith.

Wardine Alexander serves as the District 7 representative and President Pro Tempore of the Birmingham City Council. She is proud to be our alum and proud of how UAB instills service learning: “We each have a role to play in our communities and if that can be fostered while you are a college student, then that will stay with you throughout the rest of your lifetime.”

Benjamin Burgess enlisted with the Marine Corps out of high school, then earned his B.S. in Biomedical Sciences at UAB. He then transitioned to the Navy and earned an MBA and his Doctor of Medicine from UAB Heersink. Learn why commitment and service have always been pillars in his life. 

Krystle W. Glasgow, MIS, CNMT, NMTCB(CT), NMAA, FSNMMI-TS, clinical coordinator in our M.S. in Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Sciences program, is being recognized for continuing to excel in a growing and evolving profession while standing and fighting for all things nuclear medicine. Much of her motivation comes from a drive to help her students succeed.
