On October 28, 2025, Mamie Coats, Biomedical and Health Sciences co-director, received the UAB Faculty Senate award for Outstanding New Senator.
Reflecting on her inaugural year of service, Coats stated, “I’m honored to represent CDS and the School of Health Professions on our faculty senate. This past year, I have enjoyed learning more about faculty experiences across the university. I encourage all faculty to keep up to date with faculty senate meetings and activities. We have a voice at the University, and it is imperative that we make the most of it.”
The Faculty Senate is a group that represents UAB faculty in shared governance. Through their participation in various councils and committees, they convey the faculty’s views and concerns in matters that affect the University. Each year, leadership selects a few of its 70-80 members for their extraordinary service. The event honors current and incoming members of the UAB Faculty Senate and UAB Faculty Policies and Procedures Committee.
