The UAB Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is committed to training and equipping the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.

Our fellowship training programs prepare orthopaedic surgeons for rich careers in their areas of specialty. Fellows across all specialties experience a well-rounded training experience with a diverse caseload in the clinic and the operating room.

Our Foot and Ankle Fellowship is designed to provide training in all aspects of foot and ankle care, ranging from detailed conservative management to reconstructive surgery in adults.

Our Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship is a unique program in its clinical breadth which includes experience in acute trauma, sub-acute and chronic conditions from injury, overuse, congenital malformations, aging, and rheumatic or autoimmune conditions in patients of all ages. Elbow and shoulder, as well as brachial plexus problems, are included in the experience.

Fellows in the Joint Reconstruction section's Adult Reconstruction and Limb Preservation Fellowship will be prepared for a career as a well-trained hip-and-knee reconstructive surgeon by experiencing superior hands-on training alongside dedicated and enthusiastic faculty in a mentorship model.

Fellows in our Spine Fellowship will have a combined adult and pediatric orthopaedic and neurosurgical spine program experience in a comprehensive spectrum of spinal disorders using non-operative and operative interventions.

The Orthopaedic Surgery Sports Medicine Fellowship offers comprehensive surgical training in the management of sports-related injuries, emphasizing advanced arthroscopic and reconstructive procedures. Fellows gain hands-on experience providing operative care to athletes at all levels, including high school, collegiate, and professional teams.

Our Trauma Fellowship is based out of Alabama's only ACS-certified Level I Trauma Center and offers fellows a broad experience with pelvic/acetabular fracture, periarticular reconstruction, and management of poly-traumatized patients.
