UAB Department of Surgery Professor and Vice Chair of Basic Research Aurelio Galli, Ph.D., D.Sc., and UAB Division of Surgical Oncology Assistant Professor Angela Carter, Ph.D., along with their research team, were featured on the cover of Science Signaling and in ScienceAdvisor.

The UAB Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) has been awarded its third consecutive three-star rating in the Society for Vascular Surgery’s Vascular Quality Initiative (SVS VQI) during its annual evaluation.

The UAB Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy is honored to welcome the inaugural fellow for the newly launched Advanced Podiatric Limb Salvage and Reconstruction Fellowship: Jonathan Gomez Garcia, DPM, MBA.

Kimberly Hendershot, M.D., a professor in the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, is now president of the Alabama Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

The UAB Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery is pleased to announce a new endowed lectureship to honor the legacy of Loring W. Rue, III, M.D., professor emeritus in the UAB Department of Surgery. Dr. Rue’s leadership and dedication to improving trauma care makes him an instrumental figure in the history of the trauma program at UAB.

Rachael Rafferty McCurdy, DNP, RN, AGACNP-BC, recently joined the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery as the new trauma performance improvement (PI) coordinator.

After more than three decades of unwavering service and leadership in trauma care, Holly Waller, RN, BSN, MPH, NE-BC, has been named a recipient of the UAB VIP Award, a recognition reserved for those who exemplify the values, integrity, and performance that define excellence at UAB.

Since its launch, the Compassion Closet has been embraced and supported by UAB staff and the community alike, and its mission continues to grow.

The UAB Division of Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgery has received reaccreditation for an additional three years as a fellowship program specializing in advanced GI surgery, minimally invasive surgery (MIS), and abdominal wall surgery.

Participants in the UAB Department of SurgeryPre-College Research Internship for Scholarship and Mentoring (PRISM) and Future Surgeons and Scientists Investigating Oncology (FUSSION) programs came together to present their completed research to peers, mentors, and family members.

Andrea Gillis, M.D., MSPH, assistant professor in the UAB Division of Breast & Endocrine Surgery, and Peter Abraham, M.D., a recent UAB General Surgery Residency graduate and incoming UAB Endocrine Surgery (AAES) fellow, received awards at the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES) 45th Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Sushanth Reddy, M.D., Associate Professor in the UAB Department of Surgery’s Division of Surgical Oncology and Head of Surgery for the UAB Pancreaticobiliary Disease Center, recently joined UAB MedCast to discuss the multidisciplinary management of chronic pancreatitis.

Benjamin Wei, M.D., a professor in the UAB Department of Surgery and the program director of the UAB Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency in the UAB Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Charles W. Breaux, Sr. and Ann K. Breaux Endowed Professorship in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
