Emily "Emme" Stewart, senior communications manager of the UAB Department of Surgery, has been elected to the board of directors Association of Academic Surgical Administrators (AASA), serving as chair of the communications committee.
Stewart was chosen as a communications chair at the 2025 AASA annual meeting, which is held concurrently with the 2025 Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons. Her term started after the election in the first week of October and will last for one year.
Prior to stepping into a managerial role at the UAB Department of Surgery, Stewart served as the public information liaison and communications specialist for the City of Decatur.
"It's truly an honor to work with the many talented administrators of the AASA. I am excited to serve in a board capacity to share the many great things happening throughout the organization,” says Stewart.
In her role, Stewart and the communications committee will spotlight the accomplishments and case studies presented by fellow academic surgical administrators on an international scale.
Stewart is currently an MBA candidate in the UAB Collat School of Business and also serves on the UAB Medicine Take 5 Wellness Newsletter Committee.
