The mission of the CCTS Training Interdisciplinary & Emerging Research Scholars (TIERS) program is to provide beneficial information on career planning and development in a relaxed environment structured to promote collaborative learning, networking, and problem-solving. Topics match the NIH grant cycle to focus discussion on shared writing challenges.
The TIERS program is introducing a specialized focus for our monthly workshops, categorizing them into three key themes: Career Development, Excellence in Grantsmanship, and Clinical & Translational Science.
TIERS occurs via Zoom on the second Friday of each month at noon.**

The Electronic Health Record (EHR) contains an enormous amount of data but using it for research starts with understanding what is there. UAB’s research data warehouse includes more than 15 billion clinical observations represented by over 1.5 million clinical concepts. Learn how clinical data are represented, explore diagnoses, procedures, medications, labs, encounters, and other data elements in i2b2, build cohorts using inclusion and exclusion criteria, and learn how to request data through DataLENS. Designed as an introduction for trainees, this session is open to investigators, research staff, and anyone interested in using EHR data for research.
