The Social Work Honors Program provides preparation for graduate study or advanced professional careers in social work. It is designed to enhance students’ problem solving skills, critical and independent thinking, and application of research/evidence-based practice.

Participating in the Social Work Honors Program benefits you by:

  • Providing one-on-one mentoring with experienced social work faculty, the opportunity to participate in professional presentations, and exposure to enhance understanding of the social work field and practice.
  • Having “With Honors in Social Work” added to your academic transcript once you complete the program.

Eligibility Requirements

Interested students must:

  • Have been accepted into the social work major.
  • Have a minimum 3.2 overall GPA and a minimum of 3.6 GPA in required social work courses (SW 100, 200, 207, 222 and 222L)
  • Complete the application to the Honors Program, provide relevant supportive documentation, and submit per instructions.

Program Requirements

The Social Work Honors Program is designed to enhance students’ problem-solving skills, critical and independent thinking, and application of research/evidence-based practice. To complete the departmental Honors Program, you must earn 10 honors credit hours. Honors sections will be offered in the following courses:

  • Complete all required courses for the social work major
  • Complete 3 course credit hours of Honors Seminar (SW 496)
  • Complete 3 course credit hours of the Honors Independent Study (SW 498)
  • Maintain a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA and a minimum 3.6 GPA in social work courses through graduation.

Students who want to apply to the Social Work Honors Program should complete the Social Work Honors Program Interest Form.
