The Community Collaborative Board (CCB) is a collaborative partnership between the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and the Addiction Prevention Coalition (APC), established in 2020 to center the voices of people who use drugs and those who serve them in shaping research, service delivery, and public health initiatives related to substance use and HIV. Unlike traditional advisory boards that focus exclusively on research, this CCB maintains a dual focus on both research and community service, bringing together members with lived experience in substance use disorder alongside representatives from education, public health, criminal justice, mental health, and nonprofit organizations. Meeting bimonthly, the CCB has successfully contributed to study design for multiple research grants and advocated for overdose prevention strategies. The CCB welcomes perspectives from across the substance use spectrum, including prevention, treatment, and recovery communities.
