The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented to graduates whose professional achievements and community contributions are exceptional. Recipients are recognized not only for their accomplishments in their respective fields but also for their ongoing commitment to UAB.

She went on to earn her Master of Public Health (MPH) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees from UAB’s School of Public Health, further strengthening her foundation for a career that has made a significant impact in health information management and health informatics. Today, she continues to shape the field through her teaching, mentorship, and research within the UAB School of Health Professions, as well as by providing leadership in professional organizations at the local, national, and international levels.

In addition to recognizing Dr. Houser’s accomplishments, the Distinguished Alumni Award includes a $4,000 scholarship awarded to a student the following year—further extending the legacy of excellence and support that she represents.
