UAB Medicine and Children’s of Alabama recognized a combined 19 University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing alumni during Nurses Week 2020. The World Health Organization also has designated 2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife and honored Florence Nightingale on the 200th anniversary of her birth during Nurses Week on May 12.
The UAB and Children’s nurses were recognized with awards based in categories including nursing knowledge, technical skills, clinical leadership and mentorship, all hallmarks of the foundation Nightingale laid for modern-day nursing.
The UAB Medicine 2020 Clinical Excellence in Nursing Award is the highest honor available for nursing staff within UAB Health System. This year’s recipients included several School of Nursing Alumni, and UAB Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Terri Poe, who is two-time graduate of the School, earning her BSN in 1986 and her DNP in 2013, said she commends recipients of this prestigious award for their dedication to improving patient care.
