Biography

Dr. Britney Corey is a board-certified, fellowship-trained minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgeon. She completed her minimally invasive GI fellowship and general surgery residency at UAB. A Texas native, Dr. Corey graduated from the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine. Dr. Corey is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Corey's research interests center around improving surgical education and holistic review in graduate medical education. She is passionate about supporting learners during undergraduate and graduate medical education. She completed a Masters of Academic Medicine at USC Keck School of medicine to further these interests in surgical education. She has been program director of the General Surgery Residency since July 2020.

Dr. Corey's clinical interests center around complex abdominal wall hernias, flank hernias, and hiatal hernias, and anti-reflux surgery, including magnetic sphincter augmentation. She offers laparoscopic, robotic, and open approaches to these complex surgical diseases.

In 2021, she was awarded the faculty Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. She was awarded a Dean's Excellence Award in Teaching - Senior Faculty in 2025.
