The B.J. Harris Fellow
A chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and swelling around the joints, rheumatoid arthritis is a leading cause of disability in the U.S., affecting roughly half of all adults over 50 years old. Our division is actively pursuing research to improve the lives of people living with this painful, debilitating disease.
The family of B.J. Harris is proud to support UAB’s clinical research programs in rheumatoid arthritis. Their generosity funds the fellowship training of a promising rheumatologist in memory of Mr. Harris.
Congratulations to Maria Emilia Romero Noba, M.D., our 2025–26 B.J. Harris Fellow. Dr. Romero completed her medical training in Quito, Ecuador, before moving to the United States to pursue internal medicine and rheumatology. She has been actively involved in academic and research initiatives throughout her career. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Clinical Rheumatology, and she has presented multiple abstracts at American College of Rheumatology meetings.
Got more questions? Reach out and let's talk.
We'd be delighted to talk with you about the many exciting possibilities that await you at UAB. Contact me for more details about the clinical immunology and rheumatology fellowship.
