What we do?

The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is a youth-led council that strives to vocalize the needs of adolescents regarding their health care and wellbeing and provide resident physicians with feedback. Brilliant young minds will be selected to share their invaluable perspectives on adolescent health and create events that will empower and inform adolescents in the community.

3 Components to the YAB

1. Address the needs of adolescents in the community
2. Give feedback to physicians providing care for adolescents
3. Create and lead service-learning opportunities

What are the benefits of being a member of YAB?

As a member, you will be guaranteed community service hours. Members will be able to strengthen their leadership, organization, planning and outreach skills. Members will also have opportunities to participate in the Adolescent Actor Project, lead Teen Health Week activities and promoting the #Staywell Campaign. You will also be mentored by members of health care and public health community in Birmingham.

Who can apply to be a member?

Anyone between the ages of 14 and 18 can apply. You should have a passion for the needs of youth health and wellness and be a proven leader in your school, church, or community.

What are my responsibilities?

If selected you will attend planning meetings and community events. You are required to attend meetings and events to remain a member of the YAB.
