The UAB Department of Urology welcomed Dustin Hyatt, M.D., in August 2025 as a clinical associate professor in the Section of Academic Community Urology.
Hyatt earned his bachelor’s degree in biology at Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and went on to attend medical school at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana, graduating in 2010.
After completing his residency at the University of Oklahoma, he practiced as a general urologist in Florence, Alabama, from 2015 to early 2025.
When asked what inspired him to pursue urology, Hyatt stated, “Urology is a fantastic field of medicine where we treat men and women of all ages. It is the ability to care for people both medically and surgically, using tools that are at the forefront of healthcare technology, such as robots, lasers, and more.”
Looking ahead to his new role at UAB, he is enthusiastic about both teaching and learning.
“I’m excited for the ability to teach, but also to learn from world-class physicians,” Hyatt said. “I also look forward to communicating complex medical concepts in ways that patients can understand.”
Hyatt’s goals for this position reflect his commitment to both education and patient care.
“I would like to see learners and patients in outside communities look to UAB as a flagship for care.”
With his combination of clinical expertise, dedication to education, and passion for patient-centered care, Hyatt looks forward to making a meaningful impact in the department.
