The UAB Department of Radiation Oncology is proud to recognize three faculty members who have earned promotions in recognition of their outstanding contributions to research, education, clinical care, and service. These promotions are effective as of Oct. 1, 2026.
“These promotions are a well-deserved recognition of the tremendous contributions Drs. Boggs, Simiele, and Sullivan have made to our department and to the field of radiation oncology,” said Corey Speers, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair, Merle M. Salter Endowed Chair of Radiation Oncology. “Each has demonstrated a deep commitment to excellence—through outstanding patient care, innovative research, education, leadership, and advancing the quality and precision of radiation therapy. We are fortunate to have them as colleagues and leaders at UAB, and I am excited to see the impact they will continue to make in the years ahead.”
Congratulations to the following faculty members:
Hunter Boggs, M.D.
Promoted to professor
Hunter Boggs, M.D., joined the department in July 2015. He serves as vice chair for clinical affairs, medical director, and associate director of the Department of Radiation Oncology. A nationally recognized clinician and leader, his areas of interest include breast and lung cancers.
Eric Simiele, Ph.D.
Promoted to associate professor
Eric Simiele, Ph.D., joined the department as an assistant professor in 2022. He is a medical physicist whose research and teaching efforts support advancements in radiation oncology and cancer treatment. His area of interest is medical physics.
Rodney Sullivan, Ph.D.
Promoted to associate professor
Rodney Sullivan, Ph.D., joined the department as an assistant professor in 2019. He serves as director of Clinical Physics and associate director of the Medical Physics Residency Program. His areas of interest include quality assurance, stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic body radiosurgery, and respiratory motion management.
