Andrew Crouse, Ph.D., director of Research and Operations in the UAB Hugh Kaul Precision Medicine Institute, will attend the Undiagnosed Diseases International Conference in Singapore this September. The conference is focused on advancing solutions for individuals with complex medical conditions that remain without a diagnosis.
The conference is held through the Wilhelm Foundation, a global, nonprofit dedicated to ending the diagnostic odyssey for people living with undiagnosed diseases.
The conference features a unique collaborative format that brings together experts from multiple disciplines to work through challenging cases in a “hackathon”-style environment. Approximately 20 to 25 patients are selected to participate, with teams of clinicians, researchers, and other specialists reviewing available information and collaborating to identify possible diagnoses or next steps.
For some participants, the conference may lead to a diagnosis. For others, the discussions may provide new directions for continued investigation.
Crouse's participation reflects the kind of interdisciplinary collaboration the conference is built around, and his involvement gives UAB a direct role in advancing the search for answers for patients and families living with undiagnosed diseases.
