Shaniqua Johnson Anum, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
Eileen Rife, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology
Ann Kennon Ulicny, D.O., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine
Kevin Varghese, M.D., instructor in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology
Karen Wang, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine

Dana Gans, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Child Abuse, earned her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL. Dr. Gans completed her residency in general pediatrics at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC and she completed her pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL. Her clinical interests include child protection, pediatric ingestion and injury prevention.

Grant Imbrock, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, earned his medical degree from Texas A&M in College Station and Dallas, TX. Dr. Imbrock completed his residency in general pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL and he completed his pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL.

Shaniqua Johnson Anum, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, earned her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC. Dr. Anum completed her residency in general pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago in Chicago, IL. Dr. Anum completed her pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, TX. Her clinical and research interests include sickle cell disease, specifically acute chest syndrome and health care transition. Dr. Anum is committed to improving patient outcomes through clinical and translational research, advocacy and mentorship.

Eileen Rife, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology, earned her medical degree from the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY. Dr. Rife completed her combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. She completed her adult rheumatology fellowship at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, LA and her pediatric rheumatology fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL. Her clinical interests include pediatric autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases, with a particular focus on interstitial lung disease, pediatric-to-adult transition care and musculoskeletal ultrasound.

Ann Kennon Ulicny, D.O., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, earned her medical degree from Ohio University in Athens, OH. Dr. Ulicny completed her residency in general pediatrics at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, OH where she also served as chief resident. Dr. Ulicny completed her pediatric hospital medicine fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL. Her clinical and scholarly interests include caring for children with medical complexity, quality improvement/patient safety and simulation. She has a particular interest in communication, both between providers during transitions in care and with patients and families.

Kevin Varghese, M.D., instructor in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology, earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Dr. Varghese completed his residency in general pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL. His clinical interests include hospital medicine, medical education, and quality improvement.

Karen Wang, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, earned her medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN. Dr. Wang completed her residency in general pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Brimingham in Birmingham, AL and she completed her emergency medicine fellowship at the University of Alabama at Brimingham in Birmingham, AL. Her clinical interests include anaphylaxis and sickle cell disease.

The department is glad to have them on board and can't wait to see the impact they will make at UAB!
