Inductees are nominated by their peers within the AOA for their exceptional leadership and accomplishments in the orthopaedic specialty. Membership in The AOA is an earned membership that comes at the end of a stringent peer-reviewed process. According to the AOA, fewer than ten percent of practicing orthopaedic surgeons have achieved AOA Membership.

Founded in 1887 as the world’s first orthopaedic association, the AOA is a distinguished, membership-based organization of elected orthopaedic leaders. The AOA equips surgeons with essential leadership education and tools throughout their careers, from residency to retirement. Through specialized programs, the AOA addresses skills often not covered in traditional training, offering development opportunities for academic orthopaedists and driving thought leadership on key issues in the field.
