The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery is excited to announce a new chapter in employee recognition by transitioning from Kudos Corner to UAB’s enterprise-wide Applause platform.
Applause is a modern recognition tool developed to unify and elevate the way UAB employees celebrate each other’s accomplishments.
What You Should Know
All UAB employees with a uabmc.edu email address have access to the Applause platform. It offers three types of recognition:
- Celebrate, for life events like birthdays and work anniversaries
- Recognize, a peer-to-peer kudos option for non-monetary appreciation
- Points for Performance, which allows supervisors to award monetary points to direct reports for going above and beyond (1 point = $1). Points can be redeemed for Amazon items or e-gift cards.
Beyond the recognition types, Applause features a real-time recognition feed that showcases kudos across UAB. This feed can be filtered by recognitions given, received or limited to “My Circle”—a personalized group based on HR data that includes direct colleagues and can be customized further. Recognitions are automatically stored in each user’s profile, making them easy to reference during performance evaluations. The platform also includes tools for department-level filtering, making it simple to view and celebrate recognitions within neurosurgery.
Why the Change?
This transition aligns the department with UAB’s broader effort to streamline employee recognition. While Kudos Corner served us well, Applause offers more robust features, including built-in tracking and the option for monetary rewards, making recognitions more impactful and easier to manage.
