Each August, Neurosurgery Awareness Month provides an opportunity to reflect on the role our specialty plays in medicine and in the lives of patients around the world.
As part of one of the nation's leading academic medical centers, the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery is proud to advance that mission every day. Our teams care for patients facing some of medicine's most challenging conditions, including brain tumors, spinal disorders, traumatic brain injuries, stroke and cerebrovascular disease, epilepsy, movement disorders, peripheral nerve conditions, and complex pediatric neurosurgical diseases.
Across UAB Hospital, Children's of Alabama, the Birmingham VA Health Care System, St. Vincent’s Birmingham and our many clinic locations, our surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses, researchers, trainees, and professional staff work together to deliver highly specialized care to patients from throughout Alabama and the Southeast. At the same time, our department is advancing scientific discovery through research and clinical trials while training the next generation of neurosurgeons and neuroscientists.
Neurosurgery Awareness Month serves as a reminder that our impact extends far beyond the operating room.
