Yanna Brooks, certified medical assistant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery, has been selected for the 2025 Patient Experience Hero Award. She was nominated by Clinic RN team lead, Jessica Wesson for her commitment to patient care and ability to build meaningful connections with patients and colleagues
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Office of Patient Experience presents the Patient Experience Hero Award each year during Patient Experience Week. The award honors employees who go above and beyond to prioritize patient care. Nominees are selected for embodying core values and delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. Recipients are known for making a meaningful impact on patients, caregivers and team members.
“Yanna goes above and beyond every single day,” Wesson said. “She shows up with a positive attitude, goes out of her way to ensure each patient feels valued and constantly finds ways to support the team.” I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.”
Brooks is known among her peers for her strong work ethic, professionalism and compassion. Her contributions are deeply valued by patients and staff.
“I’m so honored to receive this award,” Brooks said. “I love what I do and feel lucky to be part of a team that truly cares about our patients. Knowing that I’ve made a difference in someone’s day makes it all worth it.”
