Ryan Outman has transitioned from his role as executive officer for Finance and Administration to senior executive officer for Finance and Administration in the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine, effective Jan. 1, 2026. Outman steps into the senior executive officer role Jason Daniel has held since September 2023. Daniel will devote himself full-time to his position as vice president of the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation.
As senior executive officer for Finance and Administration, Outman will offer strategies for funding, compensation, and resource allocation to advance the school’s research, teaching, and clinical missions; act as the primary liaison between the school and central administration concerning administrative and financial activities; oversee development of the Heersink Dean’s Office budget, ASETF, indirect cost allocations, and implementation of the university’s Resource Centered Management (RCM) model; monitor financial performance of departments and centers; and coordinate Academic Enrichment Fund processes and approvals, among other duties.
Outman has served as executive officer for Finance and Administration since Dec. 1, 2023. Prior to that, he served as executive administrator of the UAB Department of Family and Community Medicine. In that role, he led efforts that substantially expanded the Primary Care Service Line, the UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine Program, and the Comprehensive Urban Underserved and Rural Experience (CU2RE) program for medical students.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the Heersink School of Medicine in this expanded role,” Outman said. “I want to thank Jason for his mentorship and the Dean’s Office team for their support and teamwork. I look forward to working closely with them, our faculty, staff, and leadership to proceed in our efforts to support our people, strengthen our financial stewardship, and ensure the resources are in place to advance our research, education, and clinical missions.”
“I congratulate Ryan on this well-deserved promotion,” said Anupam Agarwal, M.D., senior vice president for Medicine and dean of the Heersink School of Medicine. “I also want to thank Jason for his leadership and contributions. I look forward to our continued partnership as we advance the priorities of the Heersink School of Medicine together.”
