habegger kirk portraitKirk Habegger, Ph.D.UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center Scientist Kirk Habegger, Ph.D., will speak at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) glucagon physiology workshop, Feb. 9-10, 2026.

The two-day workshop, Glucagon Physiology for the 21st Century, will be held at the Lister Hill Conference Center at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland.

Habegger is a professor of medicine in the UAB Department of Medicine Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and also a scientist in the UAB Nutrition Obesity Research Center. His research focuses on uncovering novel roles of glucagon physiology for the potential treatment of Type 2 diabetes and obesity. He is a recipient of numerous federal- and industry-sponsored awards and is currently investigating the metabolic effects of glucagon receptor activation in emerging obesity treatments.

Habegger will present, “Receptor Signaling and Glucose Control: Synergism and Antagonism of Insulin and Incretin Actions” in the Pharmacology of Glucagon session on Feb. 9.

Other workshop sessions will cover alpha-cell physiology, glucagon signaling, effects of glucagon on systemic metabolism, glucagon in diabetes, and extrahepatic physiology of glucagon.

Registration is now open through Feb. 1, 2026. Visit the workshop website for more information.
