Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology

Course Director

  • Inga Kadish, Ph.D. — Associate Professor of Cell, Developmental & Integrative Biology. Dr. Kadish received her PhD in Neuroscience and Neurology from University of Kuopio, Finland in 2002 and completed her postdoc training in Vascular Biology and Hypertension at University of Alabama at Birmingham. Besides doing preclinical research in aging and Alzheimer’s disease, Dr. Kadish has thought neurophysiology, anatomy and neuropharmacology courses to graduate school since 2006. In 2018 Dr. Kadish joined anatomy teaching faculty teaching anatomy across multiple graduate and health science programs.

Course Faculty

  • David Resuehr, Ph.D. — Associate Professor of Cell, Developmental & Integrative Biology. Resuehr received his Ph.D. in biology from the University of Hamburg in 2004. He then continued his research at Florida State University and then was accepted into the Vanderbilt University “Scientist Educator Program” where he was trained in gross anatomy instruction for three years. He has since taught anatomy to students of several health science disciplines, including Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry and Nursing Anesthesia. One of Resuehr’s special interests is imaging techniques and their utility in understanding three-dimensional anatomy. He is Director of the Anatomy Lab Teaching Associate Course and Director of Gross Anatomy for Students of Optometry.

  • Bradley Barger, Ph.D. — Associate Professor of Cell, Developmental & Integrative Biology. Barger received his Ph.D. in Anatomy Education from Indiana University in 2016 and joined the faculty at UAB that same year. He teaches anatomy across multiple graduate and health science programs and is course director for undergraduate Clinical Anatomy. Barger’s research interests are in 3D printing and in visual literacy.

  • Michael J. Herr, II, Ph.D. — Associate Professor of Cell, Developmental, and Integrative Biology. Michael has been teaching graduate-level anatomy since 2016. He started at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN and joined UAB in 2022. He teaches anatomy (and is rapidly learning physiology) for nurse anesthesia and a master's program.

  • Colleen Garnett, Ph.D. — Assistant Professor of Cell, Developmental, and Integrative Biology. Garnett received her Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Kentucky in 2022 when she joined the faculty at UAB. She spends her time at UAB teaching anatomy at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Will Brooks, Ph.D. — Professor and Assistant Dean for Pathways, Pipelines, and Bridges in the Department of Medical Education. He received a BS in Chemistry from Freed-Hardeman University in 2002 and a PhD in Cell Biology from UAB in 2007 where he studied the role of novel ubiquitination enzymes in cell cycle regulation. Brooks has over 15 years of experience teaching anatomy and related topics to a wide range of learners ranging from undergraduates to medical students and residents.
