Canvas Access Restored

UAB has re-enabled its Canvas connection after UAB IT implemented additional safeguards. Instructure disabled worldwide access following a security issue on Thursday and restored it on Friday. Review previous UAB communications about the disabled access and Instructure's cybersecurity breach.

What You Need to Do

  • Faculty should download all course materials, including course content and quizzes, to ensure you have backups, and export your grade book. As a best practice, export your grade book regularly during the semester.

  • All Canvas users should be vigilant against phishing attempts and suspicious messages. Do not click links in those messages or enter your BlazerID and password. Report suspicious messages as phishing attempts.

How to Download Your Course Materials

We recommend both exporting your course and downloading the content files. Save course materials in Microsoft OneDrive, as Microsoft 365 may be a viable alternative if Canvas is unavailable.

Simple Syllabus is unaffected. Log in to Simple Syllabus using your BlazerID and password to access or export a syllabus.

What Remains Turned Off

Some third-party tools, including Microsoft 365, will not be immediately available as UAB IT evaluates security concerns. We will communicate when those tools are reconnected. Faculty should consider alternatives in the meantime.
