Pathway programs allow eligible students to continue to improve their English language skills while also enrolling in university coursework that applies towards their future degree program at UAB.
Who should join a Pathway?
- Students whose English ability is close to the required admissions score, but who cannot yet demonstrate the proficiency needed for direct admission
- Students whose GPA is close to the required admissions standard, but who would like to prove their academic capabilities to UAB for direct admission
- Students who are ready to begin undergraduate or graduate coursework in their major while also building English language skill competency
- Students who would like to enhance academic success by participating in tutoring for their undergraduate or graduate coursework, in addition to taking workshops on American academic culture and study skills
Pathway students benefit from language coursework carefully designed to help English language learners prepare for academic study. Pathway students also benefit from attending mainstream academic classes with American students that will fulfill degree requirements in the future.
Pathway students have full access to the Learning Resource Center, a dedicated service for personalized tutoring and group workshops to enhance and support studying.
Pathway students can build relationships with instructors and students all across campus starting with their initial semester at UAB.
Pathway students have ample academic advising support.
