Director, Continuing Education & Lifelong Learning
Katy Smith joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) as the Director of Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning in August 2025. As Director, she leads a team that supports faculty in bringing their expertise to non-degree seekers through online and in-person courses, workshops, and certificate programs. She also collaborates with employers and community leaders to develop avenues for both professional development and personal enrichment.
Throughout her career, Katy has helped individuals create plans for impact. First in philanthropy, raising millions of dollars with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, and then working with undergraduates, faculty, and community partners at Birmingham-Southern College, she has guided people in envisioning what’s possible and developing the pathways and connections to achieve their goals. At the forefront of her work is a commitment to creating value through partnerships that serve both individuals and organizations.
Katy earned a bachelor’s in music from Birmingham-Southern College and a Master of Public Administration from UAB. Long aware of all the University has to offer, she’s excited to help bring UAB education to new audiences.
