The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Campus Dining will host James Beard Award‐winning chef Frank Stitt from 11 am – 2 pm at The Commons on Oct. 28.
Stitt, owner of acclaimed Birmingham restaurants including Highlands Bar & Grill and Bottega, will prepare special dishes and engage with the campus culinary team as part of a partnership between his team, James Beard Foundation and food‐service provider Sodexo.
During the event, Blazers will have the opportunity to sample signature dishes inspired by the menus at Bottega, Chez Fonfon and Highlands Bar & Grill.
As part of the initiative, Stitt will lend not only his culinary skills but also take part in training and development to support UAB’s Campus Dining operations and elevate the student dining experience.
About Chef Stitt: The Cullman, Alabama native has been called “the father of Alabama fine dining,” a title earned through decades of championing locally grown ingredients and Southern hospitality. His flagship restaurant Highlands Bar & Grill earned the James Beard Foundation’s “Outstanding Restaurant” award in 2018.
His appearance at UAB marks a meaningful instance of the university leveraging local culinary excellence to enhance campus life.
