My time as Staff Council Chair is coming to a close, and it has been such a privilege to serve UAB in this way. I have learned so much working alongside each of you, and I am excited to continue with the council as past Chair.
This past year, Staff Council members had the opportunity to hear from leaders across campus during our monthly meetings. We received updates from several units including Student Affairs, Employee Wellness, the Office of Access and Engagement, the Ombuds, and many more. In November 2025, we welcomed UAB Learning and Development as they hosted a collaborative activity centered around onboarding practices.
The Spring Staff Forum provided a valuable opportunity to engage with senior administrators Katie Crenshaw and Robert Howard and learn about the important work of the Commission on the Status of Professional Success from Christina McClellan.
I am so proud of how Staff Council has given back to our community through donation drives, volunteer service hours, and staff appreciation events. From donating books for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Hospital to pulling weeds at the Community Gardens, council members had many opportunities to support UAB and beyond!
We completed the election cycle for the 2026-2028 cohort of Staff Council representatives and alternates in June. I want to thank everyone who took a moment to nominate a colleague, submit a candidate statement, or vote during the election. We had an incredible group of nominees thanks to the engagement of each department.
The year 2026 marks 10 years since UAB Staff Council was established. The council has accomplished a great deal in its first decade and will continue to be a voice for staff in supporting the mission, values, and goals of the university. As we enjoy the summer, I encourage you to stay connected with Staff Council, take part in the exciting events we have planned, and find ways to make a positive impact on our campus.
