A trip to the grocery store doesn’t just mean a cart full of food products. There’s also toilet paper, deodorant, cleaning supplies and more, and for those who are food-insecure, those costs be prohibitive.
To offer a helping hand to students and employees, the UAB Staff Council and the Benevolent Fund will collect toiletries through Aug. 31 as part of the annual Blazer Kitchen Toiletry Drive, which stocks the on-campus food bank with personal hygiene items that also may be needed by patrons.
“Toiletries are much requested and needed item in Blazer Kitchen,” said Lisa Higginbotham, Benevolent Fund manager. “Drives like this are very important to keeping supplies available.”
Donations can be given to Staff Council representatives or dropped off at the 1613 Building. During this drive, the Blazer Kitchen hopes to acquire specific items:
- Feminine hygiene products
- Toilet paper
- Soap
- Shampoo
- Deodorant
- Toothpaste and toothbrushes
- Shaving cream
- Paper towels
- Laundry detergent
- Dishwashing liquid
- Reusable shopping bags
