Description: 

The Department of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join an exciting longitudinal cohort study team. The postdoctoral fellow will work with a collaborative team of scientists using data from prospective epidemiologic studies, including data related to the built environment, to investigate the role of the environment as a predictor of racial and regional disparities in cardiovascular disease, lung disease and stroke.

The postdoctoral fellow will have opportunities to work closely with the research team to conceptualize research questions, analyze data, and write manuscripts. The successful candidate will train with outstanding senior epidemiologists with a track record in helping to develop academic, government, and industry careers in cohort study design and implementation. It also offers opportunities for advanced training and collaboration in the analysis of spatial data including training using ArcGIS. Training resources are available to postdoctoral fellows through UAB’s Office of Postdoctoral Education.

This is a full-time position with an initial appointment for 2 years with possible renewal for another year conditional on performance and funding availability. 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in environmental health, epidemiology, biostatistics, nutrition, medical sociology, or a related discipline, with solid quantitative skills, proficiency with statistical software (e.g., SAS, R), and strong communication skills. Doctoral candidates with a scheduled defense date are welcome to apply.
