House appointed to two national working groups

House David RT 300pxUniversity of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Assistant Professor and Emergency Nurse Practitioner Subspecialty faculty member David House, DNP, CRNP, ENP-C, FNP-BC, CNS, has been appointed to national positions within the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) and American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners (AAENP).

Within the ENA, House will participate in a group to review, revise and update Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) Core Competencies.

“The first entry-level core competencies for nurse practitioners practicing in emergency care were developed in 2008 by the ENA,” said House. “Since then, the role of ENPs working in emergency care has broadened, and the need to update core competencies for entry into practice has been recognized.”

The workgroup consists of 10 members actively involved with ENP education and practice across the country.

House also has been selected to chair the Bylaws Committee for the AAENP.

“The AAENP has grown from 10 members in 2014 to over 800 members in 2018. With the partnerships we have formed with organizations such as the ENA, the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and other national organizations, it is necessary to create and maintain our bylaws which guide our activities and operations,” he said.

“I am honored to be part of the effort to review, revise and update ENP competencies as part of my service to the ENA, and I am proud to assist the AAENP as it continues to grow and represent nurse practitioners in emergency care,” House continued.

House joined the UAB School of Nursing in 2017. He is dual board certified as an Emergency and Family Nurse Practitioner teaching Emergency Nurse Practitioner and Leadership courses.
