Andrea Kane, M.D., assistant professor in the division of Neonatology, received a 2023 Inspiration Award from the American Medical Association (AMA) Women Physicians Section.

Amy CaJacob, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology has been recognized by the Office of Patient Experience and Engagement for the exceptional care provided to her patients.

Laura “Katie” Metrock, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, has been selected to take over as director of the Pediatric Neuro-oncology Program starting October 1, 2023. In this capacity, Dr. Metrock will oversee and grow and develop clinical, research, and educational aspects of the neuro-oncology program.

Sandeep Gupta, M.D., professor in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, & Nutrition, has been elected to serve as the vice chair of the Pediatric Gastroenterology & Developmental Biology for the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA). 

Ariel Salas, M.D., associate professor in the Division of Neonatology, is the lead author on the Impact Article of the Month for August 2023 for Evidence-Based Neonatology (EBNEO).

Nancy Tofil, M.D., professor in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care, received the 2023 Wallace Alexander Clyde Distinguished Service Award from the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Andrew Watson, M.D., (he/him/his), assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, has been selected to join the Pediatric Residency Program as co-director of Pediatric Residency Program Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

Hope Wilson, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, received a Loan Repayment Program (LRP) award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). 

The UAB Healthcare Leadership Academy (HLA) is a collaboration between the Collat School of Business and the School of Medicine. The program offers training opportunities and develops leadership skills essential to academic healthcare.

The Association for Hospital Medical Education (AHME) declared the third Friday in August as Graduate Medical Education (GME) Professionals Day to recognize the important contributions and support program coordinators and GME administrators bring to residency and fellowship training programs.

Thanks to the generosity of many of you all across the UAB Pediatric family, the IDEAA Council and Coat of Arms were able to donate 10,000+ items to over 600 elementary school students across three elementary schools in Selma (Clark, Payne, & Kingston).
