John Stoffer, M.D., is an ophthalmologist specializing in comprehensive medical and surgical eye care. He completed his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine after graduating summa cum laude in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of Alabama. He went on to complete ophthalmology residency training at the UAB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, where he served as Chief Resident and developed a strong foundation in both clinical decision-making and ophthalmic surgery.
Stoffer serves as assistant professor in the UAB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, and he remains committed to academic medicine through ongoing teaching of residents and medical students. During his residency training, he was extensively involved in formal medical education, including resident orientation, neuro-ophthalmology conferences, journal clubs, and departmental lectures, and he was awarded the Bronze Apple for his impact in teaching.
His work has been recognized with multiple honors, including Alpha Omega Alpha induction and the Patient Experience Excellence Award, reflecting both academic achievement and patient-centered care. Stoffer combines strong clinical expertise with a commitment to education and research and is passionate about helping patients preserve and improve their vision.
