Joshua D. Stein, M.D., M.S., is a board-certified ophthalmologist providing comprehensive care for patients with glaucoma and other optic nerve disorders.
Recognized internationally for his contributions to ophthalmologic research, Stein serves as chief data officer of Sight Outcomes Research Collaborative (SOURCE), a big data consortium of U.S. academic ophthalmology departments that is based at UAB. His work focuses on expanding access to eye care, optimizing treatment pathways, and advancing the use of data science in ophthalmology to improve patient outcomes.
As a clinician, Dr. Stein specializes in the long-term management of glaucoma and complex optic nerve disease, emphasizing early detection, evidence-based intervention, and continuity of care. He works closely with patients to develop tailored treatment plans that balance disease control with functional vision goals and patient preferences.
