UAB Internists to Study Physician Burnout and Resident Wellness
GIM faculty KeAndrea Titer, MD, and Stephen Russell, MD, are leading a program to study and reduce physician burnout among our residents, along with three other hospitals around the nation. Dr. Russell and Dr. Titer will implement the AMA “Re-imagining Residency” grant with the goal of improving resident wellness and clinical skills.
Department of Medicine Shines at ACP
The Alabama/Mississippi Chapter of the American College of Physicians held its annual meeting last weekend, bringing together internists from both states, 8 residency programs, and 3 medical schools. UAB’s star shined especially bright with numerous recognitions of our faculty and trainees. Flood is AGS Clinician of the Year
The American Geriatrics Society recognized Kellie Flood, MD, (Associate Professor, Gerontology, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care) as their National Clinician of the Year. The entire ACE team gathered last week to celebrate Dr. Flood’s extraordinary contributions to the healthcare of older adults. The Department adds three cheers in honor of this amazing physician!

DOM Announces 2019 Frommeyer Fellows
The Department is delighted to announce three recipients of the Walter B. Frommeyer, Jr., Fellowship in Investigative Medicine. This annual research award is designed to foster the development of outstanding physician-scientists by supporting a two-year intensive, mentored research experience.
• Nav Bajaj, MD, (left) will be defining novel inflammatory, myocardial blood flow and metabolism endotypes in acute decompensated heart failure and their association with future cardiovascular outcomes
• Radhika Gangaraju, MD, (center) will investigate clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (chip) and racial differences in stroke
• Trisha Parekh, MD, (right) will examine the impact of stress on acute care use in low-income COPD populations
