Liping Tang is a lab manager for the UAB Gregory Fleming James Cystic Fibrosis Research Center in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine. CVD Investigators Evaluate the Efficacy of New Risk Equation
In multiple studies, Panjak Arora, M.D., and Garima Arora, M.D., associate professors in CVD, found that the American Heart Association's PREVENT CVD risk equations may underestimate cardiovascular risk, thereby reducing the number of people eligible for preventive treatments. They recommend further validation before broad acceptance of the new equation.
Li Assesses Perception of Virtual Mediated Meeting Before Hospital Discharge
In a quality improvement study, Jing Li, M.D., DrPH, M.S., professor in GIMPOP, found that video-mediated discharge meetings helped close communication gaps, improved patients’ perception of care and confidence, and enhanced clinicians’ view of care coordination. Researchers recommend integrating this approach into routine discharge practices.
PhD Student Earns Scholarship for STI/HIV Research
Sheridan George, Ph.D. student in the Muzny Lab in Infectious Diseases, received a scholarship to attend the University of Washington’s “Principles of STI/HIV Research and Public Health” course, where she will explore the latest STI and HIV research through lectures, interactive sessions, and networking events.
