Demopolis, established in 1817, is the largest city in Marengo County with a population of 8,395 (Source: U.S. Census Bureau, 2018–2022 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates). Perched atop the striking Demopolis Chalk Formation—locally known as White Bluff—the city is uniquely situated at the confluence of the Black Warrior and Tombigbee Rivers in west-central Alabama. Demopolis is known for its rich history, natural beauty, and a strong sense of community.

Demopolis also boasts a highly regarded public school system and several major employers, particularly in the lumber industry and its bi-products, which benefit from the city's strategic river access.
Demopolis offers a wide range of opportunities for physical activity and community engagement through its parks, hiking trails, SportsPlex, rivers, and the Theo Ratliff Activity Center. These assets make it an ideal partner for Live HealthSmart Alabama as we work together to improve access to prevention and wellness, good nutrition, physical activity, and education services.
We are excited to begin this journey with Demopolis and look forward to building a healthier future—together.
