Sue Feldman, RN, Ph.D. 2022 Inducted into the American College of Medical Informatics, reserved for those who have made significant and sustained contributions to the field of informatics. She is only the second faculty member in the UAB School of Health Professions to become an ACMI Fellow.
Marie-Carmelle Elie, M.D., James Markert, M.D., and Alan Tita, M.D., Ph.D. 2022 Invited to join the National Academy of Medicine, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed on a physician or scientist in the United States. Elie, Markert and Tita join 13 current or former UAB faculty members who have been honored during their careers with selection to NAM.
Summer Thyme, Ph.D. 2022 Recipient of the Director's New Innovator award from the National Institutes of Health. The award is part of the NIH High-Risk, High-Reward Research program, supported by the Common Fund. It supports unusually innovative research from early career investigators who are within 10 years of their final degree or clinical residency and have not yet received an NIH R01 or equivalent grant. NIH issued 72 New Innovator awards nationwide in 2022.
Ellen Eaton, M.D. 2022 Selected to serve as a National Academy of Medicine Emerging Leaders in Health and Medicine Scholar for a three-year term. Each year, the National Academy of Medicine selects 10 exceptional scholars to address topics currently shaping the future of health and medicine.

Gold Foundation, given to outstanding immigrant health care professionals in the United States to honor the positive impact that accessible, humanistic and compassionate care has on public health.
Christy Harris Lemak, Ph.D. 2022 Named recipient of the 2022 Gary L. Filerman Prize for Educational Leadership, delivered by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration.

Cynthia Owsley, Ph.D. 2022 Received the 2022 Roger H. Johnson Macular Degeneration Award, administered by the University of Washington. The award, given every two years, recognizes an individual who has made seminal contributions to the understanding and treatment of macular degeneration.
