About the Program

Occupational therapy supports health and well-being by helping people engage in meaningful daily activities, or occupations. The UAB Department of Occupational Therapy offers a Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD) program for both entry-level and post-professional students.

Entry-Level

Designed for students with a bachelor’s degree who wish to become licensed occupational therapists. Coursework includes human anatomy, research ethics, experimental design, group dynamics, common diagnoses, and kinesiology. Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy® (NBCOT) exam.

Post-Professional

Designed for licensed occupational therapy professionals seeking to deepen their practice and expand their impact. Core courses build expertise in evidence-based practice, research design, teaching and leadership, practice management, and healthcare policy. Graduates are prepared for roles in academia, clinical leadership, and advancing the field of occupational therapy through research and advocacy work.

Delivery Method

Entry-Level

Delivered on campus in a full-time, cohort-based format.

Post-Professional

Offered 100% online with flexible scheduling to accommodate working professionals.
