Auriel Thompson is a Birmingham, Alabama native, I have grown up with a strong sense of community engagement that essentially guides every aspect of my life. I am a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and a dual Masters in Public Administration and Public Health. Currently I am enrolled at Tulane University working on my DrPH in Public Health with a focus on advocacy and health equity. In my current role I serve as the Community Engagement Coordinator for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Alabama where I have the pleasure of servicing over 82,000 children to receive free books! In my previous role, I served as the Community Initiatives Manager at Woodlawn United, a nonprofit designing holistic community revitalization as a network member of Purpose-Built Communities. I also serve as a consultant for the Youth Advisory Board for the UAB Adolescent Medicine Clinic. Before this position, I spent two years as an Administrative Coordinator in the City of Birmingham Mayor’s Office, in the Department of Youth Services. During my time with the City of Birmingham, I worked to provide enriching youth development programs for children across Birmingham.
I love spending time with family, reading, hiking, and trying various coffee shops in my free time!
